''Modernism" as an epistemic product of the western culture, by giving originality to worldly life and this world, has denied the sacred dimensions of existence, and has opened the language to denying fixed epistemological and ontological principles and foundations This school tries to explain and interpret the world and man by planning and promoting self-made principles and foundations in the three axes of epistemology, ontology and anthropology. In the meantime, since the epistemological foundations of modernism constitute the epistemological foundation of its ontological and anthropological foundations, the present essay evaluates these foundations in the thought of Mohammad Abdoh in Tafsir al-Manar and Allameh Tabatabai in Tafsir al-Mizan with a descriptive and analytical method.
Investigations show that Muhammad Abdoh has shown rationalism and scientific tendencies due to her reformist positions against Western culture. Meanwhile, Allameh Tabatabai, along with comprehensiveness and expertise in intellectual and narrative knowledge, has carefully and deeply evaluated the epistemological foundations of modernism.
